Repair Severely Dry Damaged Hair
By ptosis
I've alway had naturally curly hair. I was teased in school and was called "curly cue". I also had always lived in a high humidity environment all my life until recently when I moved to Arizona. The high dry desert had turned my hair into such dry brittle hair that I like like a scarecrow complete with straw hair.
My usual hair products such as Infusion, no longer worked, nor did any of the shampoos or conditioners marked for 'dry hair'. I could put so much of the leave-in conditioner to make my hair looked shellacked -yet still dry and stiff looking like I was wearing a cheap Halloween costume. Maybe I could go into my Wicked Witch of the West impersonation without a change of hairdo, "I want that girl and the little dog too!"
Out of desperation, one day I put baby oil on my hair just so I could comb through it. Then remembering that many people had slick shiny hair, I wondered what pomade was used. There had to be better stuff than mineral oil to put on sun damaged desert dry hair. Instead of simply googling 'Hair Repair', I decided that there were a lot of women out there who know more about hair repair than I do and went to Google Adwords Keyword Tool to see what the products were even called.
The words neem, phyto and keratin popped up. The only one that was vaguely familiar was keratin, which is what hair contains. Not being Mrs. Donald Trump I wanted the cheapest but most effective of the three hair treatments.
Neem oil seem to fit the bill for being inexpensive and multi-useful.It's a natural oil from a evergreen tree from India. The 100% neem oil can vary in price according to the manufacturers' brand. Neem oil has many uses including as a pesticide, insect repellent, and medicinal herb.
Into the next upper income bracket of products is the dietary estrogen hair products. There are many foods that already contain a high amount of Phytoestrogen content, the highest are flax and sesame seeds, soybean products and garlic. The hair products are egg and soy based, so the old wives' adage of washing your hair with an egg has borne out to be an effective homemade treatment.
Keratin is what natural hair is made. Hair straightening is called a Brazilian keratin treatment. It is also used to adhere hair extension strands with a glue gun and keratin hair glue sticks. Where does hydrolyzed keratin come from? Hooves, feathers and wool.

I have heard the following oils are also very good for your hair :
Olive oil, Coconut oil, jojoba oil, flaxseed oil.
http://www.ehairgrowthremedies.com/hair-growth-rem It is from an article I recently read. What are your thoughts on these oils when it comes to repairing damaged hair or even trying to stop hair loss?
I look forward to hearing your opinion.

Harry Donovan
Harry Donovan: I guess any kind of oil would work - but have to balance the matted down oiliness and that why I would stick to very light oils.
I love keratin as a solution for damaged hair. It makes my hair look really smooth and shiny.
Thank WhitneyNZ - I thought Keratin was just for hair extensions
I have very fine hair, light ash brown naturally that is very resistant to blonding under the wrong hands. I moved, and had to try a new colorist and she overprocessed my ends so badly they were stretchy!! Found a much better hairstylist and am slowly growing out the damage. I am not willing to cut my hair short, so I have been trying a multitude of products to make my poor dry ends look healthy and soft. Nothing I've tried has been terribly effective. I bought the Shielo brand Antioxidant Leave In Protectant from Shielo's website. I applied about 4 times and worked it through my ends and up to about chin level and immediately my hair was easier to comb. Upon drying and styling, it truly looks like my hair was never even damaged in the first place.
I STRONGLY, highly recommend this product to anyone with overprocessed ends. I'm sure it would work great on other hair types too.

Tried neem oil for the first time the other day - it worked! I put some along with my regular hair conditioner that I rinse out. Wow!~! It ain't straw no more!~
