Long Tail SEO - Hot Buzzword a Flash in the Pan?
You love to write but you want to be read and make a little money doing what you love but having an online presence is not web marketing. To increase traffic, you need to get out of your comfort zone and learn effective strategies and tactics to drive web traffic to you.
Taking advantage of a free and interactive forum such as Facebook is the 'long-tail' that drive traffic to you. Google's Analytics tracks and measures your traffic for free so that you know what drives traffic and avoid wasting time on whatever is not working.
In my Hub, "Long Tail SEO Introduction" I mentioned that when trying to sell something that most people buy stuff they don't need because they are buying into a perceived lifestyle and not 'just a product'. How to find out what triggers your target marketing? Direct response communication. I won't buy a product online unless I can call an 800 number or an online chat 24 hours a day. The least is a direct email contact. If there is one thing I can't stand is needing help and being directed to a FAQ page or forum. Triond is like that - it was very frustrating to get answers and almost gave up three times just to get my account started. The term long tail is just a buzz word for building niche traffic in the theory that it's better to attract a few who are earnest rather than a large crowd of browsers.
Rope them in by giving away something free. Whenever I search for a product I want free shipping. The one thing that it is annoying is listing the product I want by the lowest price - go to that website and find out that the cost of shipping is 3-4 times more money than the product I'm buying and worst of all this information is last - during the checkout.
Giving me a freebie such as a free shipping or free sample forces me to give up my email address and real address for delivery. Simply hard to turn down a freebie but it's not free if the shipping and handling is more than twice what the freebie is worth. That is another cheap trick. A gift is always free and there is no such thing as a 'free gift' if it cost shipping and handling charges.
Novelty quizzes surveys or input such as comments is a great way for your customer to own a part of your site. Have a system that readers can 'down vote' a troll spam without what seems would be arbitrary censorship or posts that are filtered. Web sites that try to control the input to only favorable view makes Americans angry and will not participate. Voting down by the public is democratic and appears more fair. Not that it any fairer with dirty trick available that can use attack programs to downgrade your votes from unscrupulous competitors.
Having two-way involvement with wikis or forums is a way of creating constant content that's ever-changing - as said in the how-to-SEO books but most likely the only thing that will be heard are the crickets unless it's viral material. The chances of that is slim in such a competitive market of calling for attention in a media saturated overload of information. Nobody just watches TV anymore. The TV is background while surfing on the net while waiting for a text message on the phone.
Is there a free sample for a Content Management System, (CMS) that is good? A good place to begin is the "Top 12 Free Content Management Systems" however, "php and database generation is not indexed by search engine spiders."
One dirty trick on Ebay that I've experienced was someone telling me that what I was selling was "worthless". She accused my of false advertising because she said Indiana Glass is not Carnival Glass. These questions are public and is at the bottom of the Ebay page of whatever is being sold. Most of the time it says "No questions asked." I replied to her online and thank her for identifying my carnival glass iridescent blue cobalt tumbler and wrote a link to show her that what I was selling is in the same range if not lower sold elsewhere.
Google ignores keyword meta tags but your content should have more common terms rather than rare high CPC key phrases as a scatter shot method being predictability unpredictable. Google doesn't want SEO experts to "game the system' and that why the search engine algorithm is so secret and is constantly changing. Letting people talk naturally will fill your content with popular expressions. The higher the change in content the higher the rank but java scripts can't be read by spiders.
Backlinking trading don't work because the links now have to come from more reliable and reputable websites and not from farm links. OK - so what makes something go viral? It's the Black Swan that nobody can accurately predict.
Speaking of free, Free-Press-Release.com is where your can submit your press releases for free. Get Google Merchant account along with PayPal. Be prepared to learn how to make your own PayPal buttons if selling on a site that is different from Ebay.

I wish I understood this more, but I'm trying, learning a bit at a time. Your hub helps. Thanks.
